[Co-Hosted Event] Raffles Night: Investment Opportunity in Laos

Laos is well-known for being a landlocked country border Myanmar, China, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Yet, in terms of GDP, Laos has sustained an average growth rate of 6.5 percent in 2018 as per ADB’s report and the economy has benefited greatly from the foreign direct investment. For instance, in May 2016, China invested over US$6.7 billion in 760 projects in Laos, covering a wide range of sectors.

Laos has a free market economy with strong state control. However, the government has committed to increasing foreign investment in the country and undertook several policy initiatives. To attract more FDI, the government has developed special economic zones across the country replete with new infrastructure, commercial facilities as well as generous tax incentives.  In particular, the Government has been pursuing a policy of FDI promotion, with the investment law being amended at the end of 2016.

In order to deliver a clearer image of the investment opportunities to Laos as well as the difficulties, legal challenges, banking issues that Investors face when entering this market, SBG is pleased to announce that they will be organizing the seminar INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY IN LAOS. Mr. Tee Chee Seng, General Manager of Savan Seno Special Economic Zone C, will give us the insights of the Investment Opportunity. SBG’s two Executive Committee members – Mr. Seck Yee Chung (Partner of Baker & McKenzie (Vietnam) Ltd and Mr. Jason Yeo (Country Head of Channels & Digitalization from UOB Vietnam Ltd) will be there to share their concerns by questioning when investing in Laos.
