With 100GW of additional capacity forecast by 2030, and a ten-fold increase in renewable energy generation, Vietnam is serious about the future of its energy sector. No wonder, with 14% annual electricity demand growth.
The official approval of the solar feed-in tariff in April 2017 with a 20-year PPA and a net metering support scheme for rooftop projects shows a government committed to fostering the development of the solar industry. Wind energy development is also being supported with plans to reach 6GW of wind generation capacity by 2030. Alongside that, transmission lines will be upgraded to accommodate new generation capacity and smart grids are being rolled out, improving efficiency, whilst also increasing reliability.
With almost 66% rural inhabitants, Vietnam is also scaling up its efforts to bring electricity to the entire population, whether on or off-grid, increasing electrification rates and preparing the country for growth.
