The World Week of Italian Cuisine in Vietnam – 2021

The Embassy of Italy in Hanoi, the Consulate General of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City and the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (ICHAM) present the VI edition of the World Week of Italian Cuisine in Vietnam (22 – 28 November 2021). The program of events aims at promoting the Italian culinary culture and the products and principles of the Mediterranean diet, which are central to the Italian identity and lifestyle.

The activities will kick off with the “Casa Italia Wine Festival” (Hanoi, 20th-21st of November): two days of Italian wine tastings in collaboration with some of the most important wine distributors in Vietnam. The event will take place in the garden of Casa Italia (9, Le Phung Hieu) from 10am to 9pm on both Saturday and Sunday. The format is the same as famous wine exhibitions in Italy such as Vinitaly and Vinoforum: upon payment of an entrance fee visitors will choose six different wines to taste out of more than thirty Italian cellars from different regions and varieties.

On the evening of the 22nd of November at the Red&Round restaurant the Consulate General of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City and the Department of Italian Language of the USSH organizeed “An Italian Meal with a Poet’s Aesthetics’ Touch”: a showcase of Italian traditional dishes in combination with the reading of some of the most beautiful verses of Dante Alighieri’s masterpiece “La Divina Commedia”.

Two Italian fairs of importers and distributors of Italian delicacies (“A Taste of Italy Everyday”) will take place next month at the AEON Mall Tan Phu HCMC (9 – 12 December) and at the AEON Mall Long Bien, Hanoi (16 – 19 December). Both fairs are open to the public.

The Italian Cuisine Week will also be celebrated by a number of Italian restaurants all over Vietnam, which will present original Italian specialties and menus.

The Italian Cuisine Week showcases the best of Italian food & wine in Vietnam. All products are guaranteed by a verified production chain and protected by an effective geographical indications system. The program of initiatives highlights the strong connection existing between Italian cuisine and some features of Italian and Vietnamese cultures, such as conviviality, hospitality, wellbeing and healthiness.

Italian cuisine is widely recognized as the most popular in the world, due to the quality and variety of its ingredients, the richness of its tradition and for being healthy. Italian agrifood accounts for 43 billion euros of Italy’s total export. In Vietnam Italian food and wine export is worth more than 100 million US$ (second largest EU exporter), growing approximately 10% every year. In 2020 for the first time Italy became the first wine exporter to Vietnam, with a market share of 25%. Italy has the highest number of protected geographical indications in the world: 297 food products and 415 wines.
