About Vietnam Best Sommelier in Italian Wines 2025 - 1st Editon
The “Vietnam Best Sommelier in Italian Wines 2025” competition is an initiative organized by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (ICHAM), under the patronage of the Embassy of Italy in Hanoi and the Consulate General of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City, in collaboration with the Italian Professional Sommellerie Association (ASPI) and the Vietnam Sommelier Association (VSA). The event aims to promote the excellence of Italian wines in Vietnam, enhancing the figure of sommeliers through a competition that will test their knowledge and skills in serving and tasting Italian wines.
The initiative is part of the project “A Taste of Italian Wines“, launched by ICHAM in 2022, and includes several selection phases, culminating in a prestigious final and a gala dinner. The competition represents a unique opportunity to strengthen ties between Italy and Vietnam, promote the diffusion of Italian wine culture and create new connections between Italian producers and professionals in the food and wine sector in Vietnam.
Structure
TRAINING PHASE (June 9 – July 1, 2025)
A 3-week training program consisting of 6 sessions (2 hours each), combining online theory and in-person tasting activities.
Curriculum includes:
- Overview of Italian wine regions
- DOC/DOCG classification systems
- Wine service and food pairing techniques
- Blind tasting methodology and evaluation
SEMI-FINAL (July 8, 2025)
📍 Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City – Da Nang
Format:
- Written theoretical examination
- Blind tasting with evaluation form
- Outcome: The top 3 candidates will advance to the Grand Final.
GRAND FINAL (July 25, 2025)
📍 The Reverie Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City
Final assessments include:
- Table service and food & wine pairing presentation
- Blind tasting with oral analysis
- Storytelling and live service demonstration
- Direct questioning by the jury panel
APPRECIATION NIGHT (July 25, 2025)
📍 The Reverie Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City
An exclusive evening gathering with distinguished guests including authorities, sponsors, media, and key stakeholders from the wine and F&B sectors.
Conditions of participation
Vietnamese sommeliers, bartenders and F&B professionals
with at least 1 year of experience
Age between 21 and 40 years old
Preference for those with basic knowledge of Italian wines or
who have followed dedicated courses
